Hey guys, I am an 18-year-old (very soon 19) poker player from Finland. I’ve been playing for a little bit over a year now seriously, and my progress has been very fast. I started out by getting third place in a freeroll for 10 dollars, grinded it up to 300$ playing limit hold’em after which I switched over to no-limit and haven’t looked back since. I quickly climbed up in the stakes from nl10 to nl200 multitabling like 8 tables of full ring, not really thinking much about the game, mostly just playing my hands for value, and extracting money from players who played too loose.
At this point I noticed that the full ring games were pretty dry from nl400 up, and that most of the fish could be found in the shorthanded games. I did the transition but things didn’t go very well. I was playing a way too tight style, and even tho I stacked fishes left and right my roll didn’t grow and I had an almost breakeven month. I couldn’t understand what I was doing
wrong, I clearly saw the fish playing worse hands and that I’m supposed to win from them, I blamed it all on variance, until I finally started to think more about the game, read more different poker strategy forums and subscribed for a video coaching site. A big turning point in my career was the “aha” moment I had watching one of CTS(Cole South) videos, I saw him opening stuff like 29s on the button and J8s in the cutoff and I was like wtf. I started experimenting with a looser style and was very successful. I realised I had been leaking a lot of money to the other regulars who were stealing my blinds.
My progression continued up to nl1k and nl2k tables which I’m currently grinding out. The past month I have been working on my pot-limit omaha game and haven’t played much texas hold’em. I’m working really hard on my PLO game atm and trying to move up in stakes as fast as possible. I will be talking poker here and writing up interesting hands and possibly making some videos of me playing. Feel free to comment my blog and give feedback! ![]()
